Booking tip 7

Keep the centrepieces low

Tall centrepieces block sightlines. The moment someone can't see, they turn and talk - and that spreads across a room in seconds.

Those tall floral or ornamental centrepieces look wonderful in photographs and quietly ruin performances. If a guest can't see past the arrangement, they disengage - and a disengaged guest starts a conversation with the person beside them. That gives permission to the next table. It chains across a room faster than you'd think.

Keep them low, or have them cleared before the entertainment starts.
